The Banking and FinTech Career Forum, organised by the College of Business, and co-organised by The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers, has concluded with a great success, attracting 200+ students, industry professionals, and alumni from across the Banking and FinTech sector. The event provided an invaluable platform for knowledge exchange, career advisory, and networking in the rapidly evolving fields of Banking and FinTech.

Keynote Speech: “The Unwritten Path – Navigating Your Career from Start to Specialist”

The forum was featured with an insightful keynote speech from Mr Robert Lui. As a CityUHK alumni, Mr Lui shared about his success stories on career growth and transformation at Deloitte. He also shared about the career landscape, future skills and emerging opportunities from the banking and fintech sectors which was greatly valuable for students on their career planning.

Fireside Chat: “Bank of Tomorrow”

The “Capacity Building for Future Banking” is a joint paper published by HKMA, HKAB and HKIB in 2020. The study assessed potential skill gaps in the banking industry for the period from 2021 to 2025 and provided a roadmap for collaboration among key stakeholders in the banking industry to address future talent needs. In this session, a group of panelists from banking have shared insights on the three critical skill gaps: (i) technological and data skills, (ii) banking knowledge and (iii) specific soft skills; discussed the future banking talent needs across the various banking services; and shared advice on the enhancing skills for tomorrow’s growth opportunities in Banking.

Fireside Chat: “Career in FinTech 3.0”

The role of FinTech in banking, startups, and tech consulting involves enhancing financial services through technology and innovation. In this session, the panelists have discussed about the digital transformation of Hong Kong’s banking sector including developments in AI, Web 3 and digital assets; how the 3 FinTech components collaborate and create innovative impacts on banking services; and the transformation will create future career opportunities for students.

Presentation: “Policy Foundations for Financial Excellence in Hong Kong”

To strengthen Hong Kong’s position as a premier international financial center, the collaborative ecosystem approaches in Hong Kong banking involve a highly integrated network of banks, fintech companies, policy legislatives, regulators, and government bodies working together to accelerate digital transformation, enhance innovation, and manage risks. Ms Wivinia Luk have shared knowledge on the topics from a policy perspective and share insights on the broader ecosystem, including FinTech and Web3, capital markets, asset and wealth management, as well as green and sustainable finance.

Fireside Chat: “Career in Financial Regulations”

As a global financial hub, Hong Kong's regulatory environment is becoming increasingly complex, driven by the need for stringent compliance with international standards and innovative financial technologies. Potential opportunities may include, policy research, regulatory compliance, risk management, internal audit, and advisory roles within banks, legislative and regulatory bodies or FinTech companies. In this session, the panelists have discussed about the role of financial regulation in banking, its emerging trends and challenges from a career perspective; and shared insights about its career prospects, required attributes and the fundamental requirements.

Alumni Networking Night

As a closing event for the forum, over 30 alumni have participated in the Alumni Networking Night. Students were engaging with alumni to exchange industry insights, seek advice on career development, and build professional network. It was a dedicated evening for alumni to meet fellow students, and explore new opportunities within our vibrant community.
