Biography
Shi Tang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management at City University of Hong Kong. She received her Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Management Studies from the University of Cambridge, Judge Business School and her B.S. in Biological Sciences from Tsinghua University. Her research examines the psychological foundations of strategic leadership, with a focus on executive cognition, gender and diversity, temporal perspectives, and business sustainability. She is particularly interested in understanding how psychological insights can help organizations build more effective, inclusive, and responsible leadership, especially in contexts where social inequalities remain pronounced. To address these questions, she combines archival data, field surveys, experiments and interviews across diverse organizational and cultural contexts.
Her research has been published in leading management journals, including Academy of Management Journal, Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Journal of Management Studies. Her work has received Best Paper awards from major scholarly associations, including the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society, and was recognized as a finalist for the SMS Responsible Research Paper Prize. Beyond academia, she collaborates with the Cambridge Wo+Men's Leadership Centre and industry partners such as Invesco to translate research into practical insights. Her research has also been featured in media outlets such as Forbes. At CityUHK, she teaches undergraduate- and postgraduate-level courses on corporate social responsibility and business ethics.
