When Cheryl Fan Pui-kwan walked through the doors of CityUHK College of Business (CB) as an Accountancy student, she carried a childhood dream: to study abroad and immerse herself in a new culture. Today, that dream has taken her to one of the world’s most prestigious institutions—Cambridge Judge Business School—through the CityUHK–Lucy Cavendish College Master of Finance Scholarship Programme..
A Global Mindset Shaped at CityUHK
Cheryl’s international aspirations began early, but her time at CityUHK College of Business transformed those ambitions into reality. “During my undergraduate studies, I joined the Global Mixer Programme and went on exchange to the University of Queensland,” she recalls. “These experiences broadened my global perspective and strengthened my communication skills, which have been invaluable in my career.”
Building a Career with Purpose
After graduating in 2020, Cheryl launched her career at Deloitte as an associate auditor, gaining hands-on experience in accounting and finance. Two years later, she pivoted to ESG advisory consulting at KPMG, focusing on sustainable finance—a field that combines her technical expertise with her passion for creating positive impact. “Transitioning from auditing to consulting was challenging but rewarding,” she says. “It taught me strategic problem-solving and deepened my understanding of sustainable finance.”
Why Cambridge? Why Now?
Despite her success, Cheryl felt the need to deepen her finance knowledge and confirm her long-term career path. “Most of my learning was on-the-job,” she explains. “The MFin programme at Cambridge Judge Business School offers a rigorous academic foundation and global networking opportunities that will elevate my career.”
The fully funded scholarship made this possible. “I’m grateful to CityUHK for investing in its alumni and creating pathways to world-class education,” Cheryl says. “This scholarship reflects the College’s commitment to nurturing future leaders in finance.”
