The ISACA Student Group (ISG)
The ISACA Student Group (ISG) of City University of Hong Kong serves as the student chapter for ISACA. The ISG is established in 2014. The goal of ISG is to provide CityU students with an educational and social organization that promotes knowledge of IT governance, audit, security, control and assurance. The ISG also organizes various networking events and seminars, providing precious opportunities for CityU students interested in related professional career.
The Student Organization is affiliated with the China Hong Kong Chapter of ISACA. ISACA, which was founded in 1969, is an international professional organization focused on information technology audit, control, and governance. The organization hosts international conferences, publishes journals, and establishes international IS auditing and control standards.
Missions
- To promote the education of and help expand the knowledge and skills of our members in the interrelated fields of IT governance, IS audit, security, control and assurance;
- To encourage a free exchange of IT governance, IS audit, security, control and assurance techniques, approaches, and problem solving by our members;
- To promote adequate communication to keep members abreast of current events in IT governance, IS audit, security, control and assurance that can be beneficial to them and their employers;
- To promote the Association’s professional certifications and IT governance in CityU;
- To communicate to management, auditors, universities and to IS professionals the importance of establishing controls necessary to ensure proper IT governance and the effective organization and utilization of IT resources;
- To collaborate and network with other ISGs from other universities.

Meet Zulfiquer, our President from the Department of Information Systems
Zulfiquer is a hard-working individual passionate about expanding his knowledge and experiences, particularly through his role in ISG. He is fascinated by the ever-evolving factor of Business Intelligence (BI) and wishes to pursue this passion by creating more lucrative opportunities for himself. His desire to learn more about the fast-changing world of information systems and share this knowledge with like-minded individuals makes him an even better fit as President. In the past, Zulfiquer has continued to channel his outstanding work ethic, creativity, and proactive stance as a leader and aims to do the same by bringing his fresh perspective at the CityU ISACA Student Group.

Meet Nora, our Internal Vice President
Choosing Information Systems as her home department, Nora shows great interest in IT governance and assurance techniques. As an internal vice president, she cherishes this opportunity to help hold different activities to attract students to know more about the IS-related fields and learn from each other. She feels honored to communicate with others about the gains and opinions in the various events.

Edmund's strong communication skills and networking background make him an invaluable asset to ISG. He is dedicated to organizing events fostering collaboration and skill-building among students, building a vibrant community of like-minded individuals eager to learn and grow together. Through his work in ISG, Edmund hopes to expand students' knowledge of the field, helping them to pursue exciting career opportunities and reach their full potential.

Meet Martin, our General Secretary.
As the General Secretary, Martin is dedicated to organizing events that foster collaboration and skill-building among students. He is a dedicated and passionate individual who had the experience in numerous case competitions and enroll in Tech 300, which has provided him with valuable insights into the field of information systems. He is passionate about creating a vibrant community of like-minded individuals who are eager to learn and grow together. Martin's goal is to help students expand their knowledge of the IS field and pursue exciting career opportunities.

Meet Wing, our Public Relations and Marketing Director.
With a strong understanding of social media and being innovative, Wing is confident in its ability to maintain strong public relations. Her support will enable students to expand their knowledge of information systems and foster valuable relationships with her peers. As an ExCo member of ISG, she would help in promoting ISG’s activities to students so as to assist students on how to develop their career and planning of university life. She believes that involvement in ISG activities can provide individuals with a better understanding of the available career options and keep them informed about important developments in the field.

Thanks to Lyan Law, Principal Consultant and Head, New Industrialisation and Industry 4.0, who made this visit possible and spent around two hours with us on the day of the visit. Thanks to his team too for demonstrating and letting our students experience the advanced and innovative technologies at HKPC.

Big 4 Alumni Sharing 2023

We were delighted to have the following alumni joining us to share the work life in the Big 4 accounting firms (one was not available due to a business trip), and to give us some personal advice in applying for those firms.

Professional Exams Sharing Session
1 June 2023
Obtaining relevant professional certifications is an excellent way to demonstrate a student’s knowledge and skills to potential employers. This Professional Exams Sharing Session covers the following program/exams:
1. The 2023 Microsoft Summer Certification Program (free to students)
2. ISACA professional Exams
Two speakers were invited to do the sharing:
1. Mr. Frank Ng, Microsoft Education Skills Lead
2. Mr. Derek Sham, 2017 graduate, Senior Technology and Operational Risk Manager, livi Bank
Close to 60 participants gained a lot of insights and preparation tips from the two speakers.
Big 4 Alumni Sharing Night 2022
7 September 2022
September time is the prime time for Big 4s firms to hire fresh graduates. CityU ISG has therefore organized a Big 4 Alumni Sharing Night on 7 September 2022 to help students know more about the Big 4s so as to increase their chance of success in their applications. 5 alumni from different Big 4 firms were invited to give a sharing on the following topics:
- Opportunities for students in Big 4
- Recruitment process and tips
- Typical life in Big 4 Firms & company culture
- Future career prospect
- Personal advice
It was an extremely informative session. We are glad to see ~70 participants in the zoom meeting. Majority of them stayed till the end of the session.
Sharing on ISACA Professional Certifications

On 29 June 2022, CityU ISG, in collaboration with HKUST ISG, has organized a sharing session to introduce the various certifications from ISACA to our students. We were very honored to have three speakers from ISACA China HK sharing their valuable industry experiences and insights to us in a lively manner. There was a turnout of close to 60 participants. Very positive feedback has been received, saying that this sharing session has helped them know more about how to increase their competitiveness and shape their career path.

Sharing on Professional Certifications

In this sharing meeting, we not only invited our guests to share about their experience in taking the CISA exam, but they also shared about other certifications that are very popular and useful in the IS field, including certifications related to cloud, cybersecurity and risk management. ISG Alumni Sharing 2021: Explore Information Systems and its Career Paths

Our first Alumni Sharing in 2021 was held with success on the 15th of January 2021, involving more than 40 participants. We would like to give our most sincere thanks to our GBSM alumni Mr Jeffrey Lee and Mr James Tam, who shared their time and experience with us generously by giving us very insightful and knowledgeable advice. We believe that our students have gained a clearer understanding of the future career options in information systems, both at the Big 4 firms and commercial firms.
Big 4 Alumni Sharing 2020

The Big 4 Alumni Sharing was held successfully in Zoom on 18 September 2020 with more than 40 participants. Students could freely raise questions to the alumni who come from the Big 4 firms. We would like to express our greatest gratitude to our IS alumni Aaron Lee, Minnie Ho, Kelvin Hui, Rebecca Li, and Kitty Ngai for sharing their insightful experiences with our students. We believe our participants have gained some tips on graduate application and what it is like to work at the Big 4 firms.
CISA Exam Sharing 2020

The CISA Exam Sharing 2020 organized by the CityU ISACA Student Group (ISG) was held successfully online with around 60 students. Thanks to the 3 guest speakers: Derek Sham, Johnny Ho, and Wallace Wong for sharing their CISA preparation and study tips with us. Big thanks to Janet Yu as well for giving us an overview of the CISA Exam and how it makes positive impacts on students' career development. We believe all of the attendees would understand more and consider registering for the CISA Exam in the future.
Big 4 Alumni Sharing Night 2019
18 October 2019
The Big 4 Alumni Sharing Night 2019, co-organized by the CityU ISACA Student Group (“CityU ISG”) and the Information Systems Industrial Mentorship Programme (“ISIMP”), was successfully held on 18 October 2019 with more than 70 IS students and 20 Alumni. We are so delighted and thankful to have our IS alumni with us in the sharing night to share their insights in career planning and hands-on working experiences with our fellow IS students.
The sharing night strengthened alumni ties to CityU and gave students the opportunity to meet and connect with our alumni. Our alumni shared tips in interviews and encouraged students to grab every opportunity in career development. Our students not only learnt about different careers in Banking, Big 4, Consulting and IT industries, but also explored various options in greater depth. They gained valuable advice from our alumni and built up their professional networks.
ISACA Student Group Annual Case Competition 2018

The annual joint-university case competition, organized by the ISGs of CityU, UST and BU, was held at City University of Hong Kong this year. The topic is Fintech, which focuses on risk management and security issues related to the application of Fintech.

The joint-university case competition, organized by the CityU and UST ISACA Student Groups, supporting teams from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Baptist University, has been held successfully on 8 April 2017. This year topic is Cyber Security and 80 teams from different universities have participated to show their talents!
