Department of Marketing pays tribute to students for outstanding business plans

The Department of Marketing (MKT) held an annual Students Consultancy Projects Award Presentation Ceremony at the Wei Hing Theatre on 26th May to recognize the outstanding business plans recommended by BBA China Business final year students.

68 students in six teams worked on different consultancy projects for their sponsoring company - Swire Foods Holding Limited (SFHL). Each team devised a marketing plan and business strategy for SFHL to enter the retail market in China, and presented their business plan at the end of the course. The selection panel consisted of company representatives and the course leader Prof William Yang, Professor of MKT. Three winning teams were selected to award their outstanding performance.

This project is a major assignment of the core course - MKT4653 Strategic Management Consultancy Project in Chinese Enterprises. It aims to provide students with opportunities to apply academic theories and knowledge to real-life Chinese business settings. During field research and interviews, students identify the strengths and weaknesses of the company and its competitive advantage in comparison to its major competitors, evaluate various business options and search for new sources of sustainable factors. The project can greatly enhance students’ abilities to analyze and solve real business problems.

Prof Julie Li, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programmes) of the College and Professor of MKT, delivered a speech to commend the students’ effort and hardwork. Prof Chenting Su, Head of the Department of Marketing, thanked the teaching staff and SFHL for providing support, guidance, and opportunity for the students. Company representative Mr Max Lau, Managing Director of SFHL, highly appraised the performance of students. He presented the trophies and certificates to the winning teams.

A vote of thanks was given to the company by a student representative before the end of ceremony.
