[Brown Bag] AI for Social Science: How Large Language Models Transform Research in Management by Prof. Ning Li, Tsinghua University

MGT - Research Seminar

Abstract: Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) are rapidly reshaping the research landscape in the social sciences. In this talk, I discuss how generative AI can augment multiple stages of the research process in management and related disciplines. In particular, I focus on how LLMs enable new approaches to data collection, coding, and judgment tasks that were traditionally performed by human evaluators. Drawing on emerging research, I will present two recent studies that illustrate how AI-assisted methods can improve both the scalability and precision of social science research. The talk also discusses methodological opportunities and limitations, as well as implications for the future of empirical research.
