A group of three undergraduate students,
Aaron Lee Kwok-wing, BBA Information Management (ISA stream),
David Wan Ho-yan, BBA Information Management (ISA stream) and Accountancy, and
Tracy Ma Sz-yan, BBA Information Management (ISA stream),
Won in the Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) 2018. Competing with 19 other teams from different universities and majors, the team is one of the 13 winning teams and awarded a HK$100,000 start-up seed funding for project development.
This year, the programme was focused on financial technology (FinTech) entrepreneurship project. By targeting the emerging credit market and the development of FinTech in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, the team came up with the idea – V.I Card. V.I Card utilizes Open API to help banks reduce credit card approval lead time with the implementation of AI-powered behavioural scoring. The scoring system reflects the trustworthiness of a person. Banks can then acquire customers without solely relying on financial records and reduce the risk of bad debt.
Team member Aaron shared that, "In the programme, we were provided a series of extensive learning and coaching opportunities. We first had a month of nurturing session, where Cyberport had invited entrepreneurs and practitioners to share their experience on certain FinTech area. Then we went to the University of Chicago for an intensive entrepreneurship programme, we learned project management, marketing and pitching skills. Finally, we were given the opportunity to pitch in front of investors and management on the demo day. It was really an unforgettable experience I have ever had in my life. "
David said, "From Chicago to Hong Kong, CUPP is definitely a life changing experience for us. Through CUPP, we were able to meet a lot of elites from different industries, get to know lots of talented young entrepreneurs from other universities and equipped ourselves with solid FinTech knowledge and an entrepreneurial mindset through a series of trainings organised by Cyberport and the University of Chicago."
Tracy said, "A marvellous adventure begins in Cyberport University Partnership Programme. It is a valuable opportunity to turn our fancy idea into a solution and, most importantly, to learn about what entrepreneurship is. It is not just about innovation but also perseverance. Although you may encounter a series of challenges in this journey, those experiences will make you grow up and drive you to improve your solution."
