Biography

  • Wenjie Liu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Management, College of Business, City University of Hong Kong. His research interests span the areas of nonmarket strategy, global strategy, sustainability, and political economy. One line of his research investigates how firms adapt to climate change, particularly the diffusion and effectiveness of cross-sector collaborations in global supply chainsIn another line of research, he examines how firms navigate the challenges posed by the global retreat of democracy and the rise of authoritarianism and illiberalism. His research across these two streams seeks to contribute to our broader understanding of how firms operate beyond markets, addressing environmental, social, and political issues in unsettled times.

    Dr. Liu’s research has been published in the Journal of International Business Studies and Journal of Management. He currently serves as an editorial board member of the Journal of Management. His work has earned numerous awards and recognitions from the Academy of Management and Academy of International Business, including winning the 2025 William C. Frederick SIM Outstanding Dissertation Award, the 2024 the UofSC Douglas Nigh Award in Multidisciplinary Research, and the 2024 CEIBS Best Paper Award, and being named a finalist for the 2024 ONE Best Dissertation Award, the 2024 HKUST Best Paper in Global Strategy Award, and the 2021 OMT Best International Paper Award.

    He received his Ph.D. from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in 2023. He has held a visiting appointment at Columbia Business School, Columbia University.
