Biography
Wenjie Liu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Management, College of Business, City University of Hong Kong. His research interests span the areas of nonmarket strategy, global strategy, sustainability, and political economy. One stream of his research investigates how interorganizational arrangements, particularly cross-sector collaborations, shape the diffusion and effectiveness of corporate sustainability practices in global supply chains. In another stream of research, he examines how firms navigate the challenges posed by the rise of authoritarianism and illiberalism around the world. His research across these two streams seeks to contribute to our broader understanding of how firms operate beyond markets, addressing political, social, and environmental issues in an increasingly turbulent world.
Dr. Liu’s research has been published in the Journal of International Business Studies, the Journal of Management, and Research in the Sociology of Organizations. He currently serves as an editorial board member of the Journal of Management. His work has earned numerous awards and recognitions from the Academy of Management, the Academy of International Business, and the Group for Research on Organizations and the Natural Environment, including being named a finalist for the 2025 William C. Frederick Outstanding Dissertation Award and the 2024 Organizations and the Natural Environment Dissertation Award, and wining the 2024 the UofSC Douglas Nigh Award in Multidisciplinary Research and the 2024 CEIBS Best Paper Award.
He received his Ph.D. from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in 2023. He has held a visiting appointment at Columbia Business School.
