Unlocking Career Potential: Insights from the VQAS Personal Career Development Workshop
"How should my CV look to get more interviews? This is a common question from students preparing for their transition from study to work.
On November 8, 2025, we launched our second cohort of the Vision Quest Apprentice Scheme (VQAS) with a transformative Personal Career Development Workshop led by Cheryl Lee, an ICF-accredited coach with over 16 years of experience across Asia.
At VQAS, we believe that career success starts from within. Instead of solely focusing on refining resumes and interviews, our students explored their values, identities, and aspirations. This workshop helped them foster the mindset shifts essential for navigating the job market with confidence.
Inspirational professionals, who once faced similar uncertainties, shared authentic stories and practical insights. They emphasized that being genuine is more important than having a perfect plan. Simple actions, like asking questions, can lead to significant opportunities, and real growth begins when we dare to venture into the unknown.
The session also featured a panel discussion where three industry professionals—Fiony Fung, Assistant Manager at Jardine Matheson; Bernard Chung, Business Development Executive at A&O Shearman; and Aditi Chandra, Marketing Manager at Bobbi Brown—were invited to share their work experiences and insights with students.
Cheryl Lee remarked, “It was rewarding to see students engage fully and shift their perspectives on teamwork and careers.”
Fiony Fung noted, “VQAS students are eager to take on challenges. There’s no such thing as a perfect plan—what truly matters is having the courage to take that first step.”
Bernard Chung, an alumnus of CityU, added, “Uncertainty is a normal part of starting out. Those moments push us to grow, even if it feels uncomfortable.”
Aditi Chandra reflected, “Being surrounded by CityU students reminded me that opportunities are endless when approached with an open mind and courageous heart.”
Professor Alex Fong, program leader for VQAS, highlighted the program’s goal of nurturing “3i” business leaders: internationally minded, innovative, and intelligent individuals prepared for the future.
We're excited to support our students on their journey of growth!
