The College of Business held its 2013 Congregation for the Conferment of Degrees at Chan Tai Ho Multi-purpose Hall on 18th November.  A total of 1,339 awards of PhDs, Master Degrees and Bachelor Degrees were conferred to the graduates from the College of Business, Department of Economics and Finance, Department of Information Systems and Department of Management at the congregation ceremonies held this morning and afternoon.

The first and second session of the congregation were presided by Mr Herman Hu, Chairman of the Council and Prof Way Kuo, President of City University of Hong Kong respectively.  Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College of Business,  welcomed the guests, graduates and their families to share the happiness in the ceremony.  In his speech, Prof Yan congratulated the graduates and thanked their families, “You have worked very hard to successfully complete university and earn your degree with us today. But you wouldn’t have achieved it without the help of your families.” He also gave his sincere advice to the graduates in tackling future challenges: “In the past, education was a simpler affair, but now things are not quite so simple. The marketplace is not so straightforward. Employers are looking to differentiate excellent students from the merely competent. Alongside knowledge, personal attitude is seen as important.”

The ceremonies were closed by speeches delivered by Graduate Representatives – Cheryl Cheng Kit-lai, BBA (Honours) in Finance, and Shuli Zhou, BBA (Honours) in Global Business Systems Management.

Presentation ceremonies are continued on 19th November for conferring a total of 966 degree awards to the graduates from Department of Accountancy, Department of Marketing, Department of Management Sciences.
