The College of Business hosted the second seminar of the Emerging Trends Seminar Series at Academic 3 on 29th March. The seminar was jointly organised by CB’s Executive Education Unit, the Department of Information Systems, and the Department of Management Sciences. It attracted more than 100 business practitioners from the local business community to explore applications on Big Data — the Next Frontier in Business, Health and Science.
Prof Kwok-leung Tsui, Head of the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management and Chair Professor of Industrial Engineering, introduced the seminar series. Prof Stephen Fienberg, Maurice Falk University Professor of Statistics and Social Science, Carnegie Mellon University, then delivered one of the two featured talks on New Multivariate Challenges and Privacy Issues in the Context of Big Data Research; followed by Mr Raymond Chu, Executive of IBM Software Group, on Big Data and Analytics: IBM’s Point of View.
A panel discussion on topics related to Big Data Application in Hong Kong concluded the seminar. Prof Jian Ma, Professor in the Department of Information Systems, was the moderator of the panel. The seminar provided an opportunity for faculty members to discuss and interact with business practitioners.
