The College of Business invited Mr Stanley Lau, BBS, MH, JP, Managing Director of Renley Watch Group, to share insights with CityU Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) students on the topic: Opportunities and Challenges of Pearl River Delta (珠三角的機遇與挑戰) at Academic 3 on 30th August.

Mr Lau discussed the challenges that Hong Kong businesses are currently facing due to economic and social factors unfolding in the delta area such as increase in production costs and changes in government policies. He also explored opportunities in new markets created by emerging online trends, increasing consumer purchasing power, and improvement in product qualities.

Mr Lau concluded with four insights on the business development of the Pearl River Delta for the near future:

  1. Production costs in the delta area will continue to increase.
  2. Hong Kong companies have advantages in developing their markets in mainland China.
  3. Both China and Hong Kong governments should support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) due to the scarcity of resources.
  4. Most companies present a neutral to optimistic business outlook on their general performance.
