CB faculty receives China Science and Technology award

Congratulations to Prof Jeff Hong, Chair Professor of the Department of Management Sciences and the Department of Economics and Finance, on receiving the Research Award for Science and Technology Operations Research 科學技術獎運籌研究獎 from the Operations Research Society of China (ORSC). Prof Hong received the award at the ORSC National Meeting 2014, held at Jiangsu Normal University, Xuzhou China from 17th to 20th October.

Prof Hong was recognised for his outstanding achievements in the field of operations research as well as his wider contributions to society. Prof Hong has made a number of fundamental and pioneering theoretical achievements through the combined use of optimization and simulation methods, namely using chance-constrained optimization, black-box optimization, Quantile Estimation, and Stochastic Optimization. The title of his award-winning research is Simulation-based optimization method and its application (English translation) 基於仿真的優化方法及其應用.

“This award is recognition not only for my work in the field of operations research on an individual basis, but also recognition for the CityU College of Business research faculty on an academic level,” said Prof Hong. “I feel honoured to have received the award.”

Prof Hong’s research interests include financial engineering, financial analytics, and financial risk management; and stochastic simulation, stochastic optimization, and their applications.
