CB students win business competition for social innovation

The College of Business BBA team won the Pitching Enterprising Ideas for Social Innovationcompetition champion held at CityU on 31st October. Team members include Business Proposal and Competition Club (BPCC) president Joseph Yin Cheng-hsuan, and incoming exchange students Jazmin Gibeaut and Norman Sonntag.

Co-organized by Project Flame, City University of Hong Kong, and the International Centre for Social Franchising, the competition was opened to the public, participating team members included secondary students, university students, graduates, and entrepreneurs.

The teams pitched their business proposal on an innovative idea to the Panel of Judges of the Project Flame Symposium. The panel consisted of international and local experts in social innovation and enterprise.

Joseph’s team proposed to develop a sign language translation tool to help the speech-impaired and to offer special needs products and services. After rounds of presentations and Q&A sessions, the CityU BBA team was awarded the Champion of the Pitching Enterprising Ideas for Social Innovation competition.

“I want to thank Prof Alex Wang of the Department of Information Systems and Director David Ai of the CityU Knowledge Transfer Office for giving suggestions to us. What I learned from BPCC (supported by the College of Business) also played an important role in our winning proposal. The club activities helped us develop ideas and improve our weaknesses,” Joseph said.

“It was a valuable experience,” he added.
