Retail Asia Expo 2015: The New Silk Road

Prof Wenyu Dou, Associate Dean of the College of Business, was invited as one of the seven guest speakers for the Omni-Channel Retailing Conference 2015 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on 10th June.

The conference served as a platform for industry leaders to discuss China’s New Silk Road and gain new impulses to engage customers in a seamless, integrated way across various channels. The event was one of the major highlights of the Retail Asia Expo 2015, concurrently held at the HKCEC on 9th and 10th of June.

Over 200 industry professionals attended the conference. The speakers discussed China’s One Belt One Road strategy, online retail campaigns, and the New Silk Road.

Prof Dou suggested that retailers in Asia should focus on the ever-changing open markets. With the gradual development of the New Silk Road, people will see more products importing from different countries and cultural backgrounds as well as the change in living styles. Despite the continuous growth of globalization, the Asia markets still have a strong need in product diversity. Retailers need to understand consumers’ cultural preferences in order to precisely match their needs with retailers’ varied products.
