EMBA orientation for Autumn 2015 cohort

Orientation for autumn 2015 cohort of the Executive Master of Business Administration (Chinese) (EMBA (Chinese)) programme was held from 15th to 18th October.

The orientation started with an opening speech from Prof Wenyu Dou, Director of the EMBA (Chinese) Programme and Associate Dean of the College of Business, followed by a course introduction by Prof Stephen Liao, Associate Director of the EMBA (Chinese) Programme and Professor of the Department of Information Systems.

“It is my pleasure to welcome the new cohort joining CityU,” Prof Dou said. He hoped the students can actively share their extensive business knowledge and experiences in class, making the programme more enjoyable. Prof Dou added that the two-year learning journey could be strenuous yet rewarding. He ended his speech with an encouraging and inspiring quote by an Indian writer Manish Gupta “No difficulty is insurmountable if one sets one’s mind on it”.

29 new students from mainland China attended the four-day orientation. The programme included a campus tour, workshops and drama class conducted by a local renowned director Mr Mingto Shing. It also provided team-building activities to help students to get to know each other better, such as hiking in the Hong Kong Global Geopark of China, and visits to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and Asia Television Limited (ATV).

A welcoming dinner cum Gobi 11 kick-off ceremony was held on the 2nd day of the orientation programme. Prof Horace Hoshing Ip, the Vice-President (Student Affairs) of CityU, Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College, Prof Dou, and Dr John Leung, Director of the EMBA Programme, gave a toast to all the students and guests, and wished the new cohort a fruitful learning experience. Another highlight of the night was the Gobi 11 kick-off ceremony. A group of energetic, high-spirited students teamed up to compete the 11th Xuanzang Road Business School Gobi Challenge in next May. They were at very high morale and were ready to prepare for the competition!
