EMBA study trip in Hangzhou



The College of Business Executive Master of Business Administration (Chinese) (EMBA (Chinese)) programme has organised a four-day study trip in Hangzhou, China from 10th -13th December. 18 students from the Spring 2015 cohort participated in the trip.

The expedition aimed to provide insights about operation management of Chinese businesses. Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College of Business and Chair Professor of Management Sciences, and Prof Ziguang Chen, Professor of the Department of Management, delivered lectures to the participants. The students gained valuable insights from topics such as business strategies, operation models, organisational management, and supply chain, etc. Guest speaker Mr Jianxin Guo, the former Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Li Ning Company Limited, also shared his experience in logistics and procurement management.

Highlights of the study trip included workshops, group presentations, and corporate visits to leading Chinese companies, namely, Alibaba Group, a global leader in online and mobile commerce which plays significant roles in wholesale and retail online businesses, and Transfer Logistics, one of the a key highway-port logistics operators in China.


The students also visited the Xixi Campus of Zhejiang University and had a one-day class there. The Xixi Campus is renowned of its traditional architecture as well as the tranquil atmosphere surrounded by the greenery.
