CB students gain real business experience at Lunar New Year Fair

A group of 14 undergraduate students from the Department of Management started a business at the Lunar New Year fair in Victoria Park from 2nd to 8th February, selling towels and cushions that were related to nostalgic games and local buzzwords.

The group started the preparation months ago, and came up with creative items featured in Chinese buzzwords: "逃出泳池" and "懷舊兵室", and nostalgic games such as Pac-Man (食鬼) and Tamagotchi (他媽哥池). With advice from professors of MGT, they have learnt how to prepare the business from stall decorations, products designs and marketing strategies.

"It was a great experience for us. We learnt to adopt different marketing strategies and pricing techniques in a flexible way. At times we encountered difficulties and crisis situations like running out of certain goods which we didn’t expect to have such high demand. But some items which we had very high expectations on were eventually unsalable," said Helen Ng, one of the students in the group.

Apart from having an unforgettable business experience, they have learnt the true meaning of teamwork, trust and support.

“The close friendship we built and also the memories will never, ever be forgotten,” Ng concluded.
