CB students excel in international trading competition

A team of six CB students, led by Dr Zhong Zhang, Assistant Professor of the Department of Economics and Finance, achieved outstanding performance in the Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC) 2016. The competition, hosted by Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, was held in Canada from 18th to 20th February.

The Competition took place in the trading laboratory at Rotman School of Management. Over the two and a half day period, the teams participated in various activities including electronic and outcry trading cases, and required to analyse, provide solutions, and make decisions on the cases through an order-driven market simulator. They were also arranged to attend seminars with industry practitioners and some social events to mingle with other competitors for network expansion.

The CB team competed in six categories with 51 other teams from leading universities around the world, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Baruch College and Columbia University, etc. The team ranked No.4 in S&P Equity Case and No. 8 in the Algorithmic Trading Case. They were placed at 16th out of 52 teams in the overall result.

The students who represented CB are:

  2. Cho Yuen Lam, BBA Finance
  3. Xinhe Liu, BBA Quantitative Finance and Risk Management (graduated Jan 2016)

“I really enjoyed the competition particularly in the Equity Valuation Case. The case had high requirements on financial acumen and decision‐making ability. We are very proud of our achievements in this case,” said Yuying Qu.

Xinlei Huang said, “Dr Zhang has made a lot of efforts and contributions to this competition. Not only did he offer helpful suggestions on trading strategies, he helped the team to settle down in Canada and explored internship opportunities for us. We are very grateful to him.”

The students would also like to thank Dr Azizjon Alimov, Dr Xueping Wu and Dr Zhong Zhang from the Department of Economics and Finance, for their unfailing support and trust to the team throughout the competition.

Congratulations to the students on their achievements!
