CB welcomes new EMBA Learning Partners

Orientation for Spring 2016 cohort of the Executive Master of Business Administration (Chinese) (EMBA (Chinese)) programme was held from 21st to 24th April. 22 new students attended the four-day orientation.

The orientation started with an opening speech from Prof Wenyu Dou, Director of the EMBA (Chinese) Programme and Associate Dean of the College of Business, followed by a course introduction by Prof Stephen Liao, Associate Director of the EMBA (Chinese) Programme and Professor of the Department of Information Systems.

Prof Dou welcomed the students and wished them every success in their studies. He hoped that the students can actively share their unique industrial experiences, integrate the business knowledge learnt in class, and make use of the programme to build lifelong professional network.

Prof Dou emphasised that the mission of the EMBA programme was to discover every student’s talents and to extend one’s potential to the fullest. Although the two-year learning journey could be challenging and stressful at times, he encouraged the students “not to be serious, but sincere” when facing difficulties.

The orientation programme included a campus tour, workshops, team building and orienteering activities, and a leadership drama class. Visits to the Legislative Council of the HKSAR, Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank Co. Ltd. (Hong Kong Branch) were also arranged to offer the students with an overview on the political and financial situation of Hong Kong.

An inauguration ceremony was held on the second day of the orientation programme. Prof Way Kuo, President of CityU, Dr John Leung, Director of the EMBA Programme, Ms Alvine Suen, Chairlady of the EMBA Association, and other faculty members and EMBA alumni were cordially invited to the ceremony. The College was honoured to have an esteemed alumnus Dr John Chan Chun-tung, the first graduate of the College Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme, to share his learning experience and encouragement to the new students.

Another highlight was the Gobi 11 kick-off ceremony. A group of energetic, high-spirited students teamed up to represent the College to compete in the School of Business - Xuanzang Road Gobi Challenge (玄奘之路商學院戈壁挑戰賽) from 22nd to 25th May. We look forward to their good news and wish the competing team the best of luck.
