BBA students receive top awards at EYAcademy CSR Challenge 2016

Six CB undergraduate students excelled in the EYAcademy CSR Challenge 2016 and were awarded top prizes.

With the theme “Better Living, Better World”, the challenge aimed to help students cultivate entrepreneurial skills by working on real-life business projects, with advice provided by their mentors. Over 100 students from local universities in the EYAcademy programme were divided into 10 teams and paired up with entrepreneurs from five outstanding start-up companies, to work on value proposition plans that can benefit the community and to suggest creative marketing solutions to promote the innovative products from the start-ups. The competing teams had to deliver appealing presentations and to address queries from judges and audience.

CB students from the three award winning teams include:

  • Jessica Chan Siu-ting, BBA Accountancy,
    Member of Best Team Award - Champion and Most Favourite Team
  • Hiu-fung Ho, BBA Global Business Systems Management,
    Member of Best Team Award – First Runner Up
  • Shuk-ching Wong, BBA Accountancy,
    Member of Best Team Award – First Runner Up
  • Hoi-ngai Lau, BBA Accountancy,
    Member of Best Team Award – Second Runner Up
  • Ka-ting Wong, BBA Accountancy,
    Member of Best Team Award – Second Runner Up

Jessica was a member of the Best Team Award - Champion and Most Favourite Team, and she says, "It is important to consider others' opinions when working on a business as a team, and to aim at serving society as an ultimate goal."

CB student who won the “Top Performing Cadets” and given an internship opportunity at Ernst & Young’s mainland China office is:

  • Valent Cheung Chiu-ying, BBA Global Business Systems Management,
    Top Performing Cadet – Second Runner Up

Valent, the Top Performing Cadet Award winner, shares his experience in the competition, “This contest allowed me to have the very first taste of corporate social responsibility. I feel satisfied to provide solutions to tech firms.”

“It’s great to exchange ideas with elite students from other universities. The competition has made me become more proactive in finding ways to contribute to the community, and I hope to inspire people around me to do the same thing,” he said.

The EYAcademy is a three-year cadetship programme initiated by Ernst & Young, a global player in assurance, tax, transaction and advisory services. The programme aims to equip selected students with wide-ranging skills, knowledge about the accounting industry and social responsibilities. Since 2011, EYAcademy has been offering a series of activities such as mentorship, trainings, meeting business leaders and other CSR events, to help the cadets to develop entrepreneurial skills, to utilise their talents and to expand their own professional network.
