Undergraduate student wins BDO Best Intern Scholarship Contest 2016

Lydia Chan Hiu-wa, BBA Accountancy, participated in the BDO (HK) Best Intern Scholarship Content 2016 and had outstanding performance throughout rounds of competition. Lydia finally outperformed her rivals and was awarded a tentative job offer, shadowing senior executives at BDO, and a cash prize. Students from the Department of Accountancy have proudly won in the BDO contest for three consecutive years, illustrating their high level of competitiveness and employability.

The competition evaluated the performance of the interns in two areas, namely the overall internship performance and the presentation on the proposal based on real problems identified in the working department.  Lydia concluded that the competition was very well designed and provided good incentives for students to improve their problem-solving skills.

“It provides a good platform to train up our analytical and organizational skills. We do not only perform daily tasks given by our seniors, we do need to critically observe if there are other problems in the department and suggest ways to improve the situation,” she said.

Lydia attributed her success to the following key factors, “My positive work attitude and proactive approach, as well as my ability to observe and to suggest solutions. All these may make me more exceptional than the others.”

The competition meant a lot to Lydia, who becomes more determined and perseverant now, in leading her to pursue a career as an auditor in the future.
