EMBA students take closer look at Myanmar

The Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programme organised a seven-day study trip to Yangon, Naypyitaw and Bagan in Myanmar from 12th to 18th June. Led by Dr John Leung, Director of the EMBA programme, Prof Maris Martinsons, Professor of the Department of Management and Dr Michael Wong, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Finance, 16 EMBA students embarked on the journey to Myanmar.

The study trip is a key component under the EMBA programme, with an aim to integrate and consolidate knowledge learnt from the programme, and apply it in a new environment outside Hong Kong. Besides visits to government departments such as the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of National Planning and Finance and Ministry of Commerce, the group also had meetings with political and business leaders in Myanmar including U Maung Maung Soe, Mayor of Yangon city, Dr U Thein Tun, Founder of Tun Foundation Bank and Chairman of Myanmar Banks Association, and Dr Myo Thet, Vice President of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, etc.

Through these visits and exchange sessions, the EMBA students have gained better understanding about the rapid economic development of Myanmar, and the business opportunities of various industries in the country.
