MBA Residential Trip takes place in Hangzhou


The MBA Enterprise Diagnostic Residential Trip was successfully held from 12th to 21th June in Hangzhou, China. Led by Programme Director Prof Kevin Chiang, a group of 20 MBA students and professors have stayed in Hangzhou for 10 days to work closely with the senior management of High Fashion (China) Co., Ltd. The host company is a subsidiary of High Fashion International Limited, a HKEx listed company specialising in silk textile and garment manufacturing.

Mr Well Lam, General Manager of High Fashion (China) Co., Ltd, shared his views in the kick-off meeting on some recent hot issues, including “Made in China 2025”, “Industry 4.0” and “Internet +”. He emphasised that it was important for the Company to explore new opportunities by leverage the advantages of the traditional silk industry under China’s new OBOR initiative.  After the meeting, the group made a visit to the Company’s key production bases to learn about the operations.

Prof Kevin Chiang expressed his gratitude to High Fashion for their reception during the appreciation banquet. He believed the trip has provided a good platform for all the participants to exchange inspirational insights into management practices and business strategies.

Led by five project supervisors, Prof Kai Hin Lim, Chair Professor of Information Technology Innovation and Management of the Information Systems Department, Dr Gang Hao, Associate Professor of the Department of Management Sciences, Dr Alex Wang, Assistant Professor of the Department of Information Systems, Dr Wei Liyuan, Assistant Professor of the Department of Marketing, and Dr Wilson Chan, Associate Programme Director of MBA, the students formed into groups to analyse, develop solutions and provide business consultation plans to the host company in the areas of its e-Platform, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management.

The students presented their findings and suggestions to the senior management at the end of the visit. The management team, including the Founder and Chairman Mr Foo Wah Lam, was impressed by the proposals provided by the students. In return, they have exchanged their current practice from a practical point of view.  The interaction was stimulating. After collecting feedback from High Fashion, the students will refine their business consultation plans and submit them to High Fashion for consideration one month after the trip.
