2016 College orientation for freshmen

More than 600 freshmen gathered at the College Orientation Day 2016 at City University of Hong Kong on 25th August. The event, organised by the College’s Undergraduate Programme unit, aimed to help new students to understand more about the College and introduced them to resources which facilitate their study at CityU.

Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College, opened the event with welcoming remarks. He congratulated the new students to join the College and hoped they can make the most out of their four-year university life.

Dr Weiquan Wang, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programmes) of the College, highlighted new developments on the undergraduate programmes and introduced the College’s unique internship and exchange opportunities. In his speech, Dr Wang added that the two elements “Attitude” and “strike a Balance” were of utmost importance to university students, and could help ones to achieve success in life.

The theme for this year’s orientation day was “Dare to dream, Dare to fly.” With the support from the members of the College of Business Leadership Club (CBLC), new students were introduced to the College’s resources through different games and interactive activities.

Facilitated by the senior students Parson Fung Ka-wai, BBA Human Resources Management and Yoyo Cheung King-yiu, BBA Accountancy, alumna Florence Tang Wing-tsz, BBA Accountancy graduate in 2013, told her experiences in the exchange programme in Denmark and gave study tips to fellow students during the sharing session. Florence encouraged the freshmen to brave new challenges, and to discover their potentials and direction by gaining different exposures in the College.

Also attending the event were Prof William Wan, Associate Dean (Research and Faculty) of the College, Dr Andrew Chan, Director of First Year Teaching and Learning, and Heads from the six Departments, Prof Cheong-heon Yi, Prof Yue Ma, Prof Choon-ling Sia, Prof Brian Keane Boyd, Prof Frank Chen Youhua and Prof Julie Li.
