Accountancy and Finance students receive Merit Award in ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition

The annual ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition aims to equip accounting and business students with the business analysis, presentation and communication skills through a series of workshops and coaching. Themed “Youth Catalysts in Driving Social Business Excellence” this year, the contesting students were required to analyze the business problems of a social enterprise in Hong Kong, and develop feasible plans that can optimize the company’s business operations.

One of the CB student teams, consists of three students from the Department of Economics and Finance, Zhejing Fang, Xiaonan Wan and Jia Guo, and another student Yejun Liu from the Department of Accountancy, won the Merit Award in the competition.

Team leader Zhejing Fang, explained, “We looked into the operations of Cook1cook, which is a non-profit making social enterprise running a platform to share cooking recipes. We have suggested new ideas such as selling recipes to more restaurants, live video demonstrations in cooking, virtual recruitment, etc., to increase its revenue and brand awareness. We got the professional advice from our coach and have learned a lot from this meaningful project.”

The team was coached by CityU Accountancy alumnus Mr William Mak Tze-leung, who is the Partner (Assurance Services) of PwC Hong Kong. Mr Mak is an active member of ACCA and CityU Eminence Society, which is an alumni association aims to unite senior graduates of CityU to give back to the University and society. He has long been dedicating his expertise and time to help the young people to develop talents and skills.

Since its launch in 2007, the annual ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition has integrated the elements of business knowledge and social responsibility, and encouraged business students to use their talent and creativity to serve the community.
