2017 College Orientation for freshmen


Around 600 freshmen gathered at the College Orientation Day 2017 at CityU on 31st August. The event, hosted by the College’s Undergraduate Programme unit and the College of Business Leadership Club (CBLC), aimed to help new students to understand more about the College and introduced resources which facilitate student's study at CityU.

Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College, opened the event with welcoming remarks. He congratulated the new students to join the College and hoped they can make the most out of their four-year university life.

Prof Weiquan Wang, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programmes) of the College, introduced the College’s undergraduate programme, and its unique internship and exchange opportunities. In his speech, Prof Wang added that having good goals setting and pursuing goals are of utmost importance to university students, and can help ones to achieve success in life.  

The theme of this year’s orientation day was The Sky’s the Limit, members of CBLC shared their own experience on how to get used to the university life. The new students were also familiarised with the College’s resources through different games and interactive activities.

Facilitated by senior students  Jason Fan Tsz-hin, BBA Information Management, and Yolanda Ma Cheuk-yiu, BBA Management, alumni Mr Calvin Jim, 2014 BBA Marketing graduate, and Ms Kayee Lam, 2016 BBA Accountancy graduate, told their school life experience, including overseas exchange programme, internship and other extra-curricular activities in a sharing session.   They encouraged freshmen to enjoy their study with only pleasure but not pressure, and to gain different exposures while they are in the College.    

Also attending the event were Prof William Wan, Associate Dean, Dr Mary Pang, Associate Dean, Dr Andrew Chan, Director of First Year Teaching and Learning, and Heads/Associate Heads from the six Departments, Prof Jeong-bon Kim, Dr To-ming Ho, Prof Choon-ling Sia, Prof Brian Keane Boyd, Dr Geoffrey Tso and Prof Julie Li.
