Welcome CityU MBA Cohort 2017



The Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme welcomed the Cohort 2017 in an orientation event held from 2nd to 3rd September. In the orientation dinner, Professor Way Kuo, University President, gave his opening remarks to welcome the new students.

“One of the unique features of CityU MBA Programme is its international diversity. In CityU, we are all equal. We welcome knowledge, and people from different backgrounds to come to learn from each other,” said Prof Kuo.

The Honourable Elsie Leung Oi-sie, GBM, JP, first Secretary for Justice of HKSAR, gave her keynote speech about “Belt and Road” Initiative at the dinner. The Hon Leung shared knowledge on the One Belt One Road, as well as encouraged students to place focus on the positive impact of this initiative, not only on economy, but on politics, diplomacy and humanities.

Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College of Business, and Prof Kevin Chiang, Director of the MBA programme, both expressed their warm welcome to the new cohort, and wished them to have a good learning experience at CityU.

The MBA community including current students and alumni gave their heartfelt support:  Ms Sharon Wong (MBA 2016 student) and Mr CK Fok (MBA’16) were the masters of ceremonies; while Ms Frances Tang (MBA’05) brought her harp performance to the audience. Miss Sarah Yin (MBA’15) and Miss Man-yu Ng (MBA 2017 student) played the solo recitals, and Mr Stanley Zheng (MBA’16) introduced the MBA Alumni Association to the new cohort.

Also attending the orientation dinner were Dr Ron Kwok Chi-wai, Dean of Students, Prof Wayne Yu, Assistant Dean (Executive Education), Prof Jeong-Bon Kim, Chair Professor and Acting Head of the Department of Accountancy, Dr Christoph Schneider, MBA Associate Director, Dr Wilson Chan, MBA Associate Director of Outreach, Dr Vikas Kakkar, MBA Coordinator in Finance, and Prof Yulin Fang, MBA Coordinator in Information Management.

The MBA Orientation is a two-day programme in which new MBA students are offered a mixture of academic and social events, including team-building activities, networking with alumni and senior students, sharing sessions by renowned guests,  and talks by faculty members and industry experts that are career-focused.
