College of Business Distinguished Alumni Award 2017

The College of Business has accumulated over 40,000 alumni since its establishment in 1990. Many of these young energetic alumni have used their professional or scholastic knowledge to contribute significantly to Hong Kong and the global community.

This year the College has selected four distinguished alumni to hounour them the College of Business Distinguished Alumni Award, in recognition of their outstanding achievements and contributions to their professions, the University and society.

The four recipients are:

  • Professor LI Haiyang, PhD Management ’98
  • Professor WANG Yonggui, PhD Management Sciences ’04
  • Ms Alvine SUEN Yee Ming, EMBA ’12
  • Mr Roy TING Chi Wai, BBA China Business ’04

LI Haiyang obtained his PhD in Management in 1998. He is currently Professor of Strategic Management and Innovation at the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business, Rice University, US. Professor Li’s research interests focus on technology entrepreneurship and innovation (particularly in China), strategic alliances and multinational firms’ innovation in emerging markets, as well as the growth of China's technology clusters. His research has appeared in top business journals including Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Marketing, and Organization Science. He has served on editorial review boards of multiple premier journals such as Academy of Management Journal and Strategic Management Journal.

WANG Yonggui obtained his PhD in Management Sciences in 2004. He is currently Dean of Business School, Changjiang Scholar, and Professor of Marketing and Strategy at University of International Business and Economics, Beijing, China. His research focuses on service management, value co-creation, CRM, and customer innovations.  Professor Wang has published a large number of articles in leading business journals such as Journal of Marketing, Journal of Operations Management, and Journal of Management. He has received numerous recognitions and awards including the State Program of "Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents" and the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of China. He is also a Fulbright Senior Visiting Professor of Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, U.S.

Alvine SUEN Yee Ming received her EMBA in 2012 and is a very devoted alumna. She is founding Chairlady of CityU’s EMBA Association Charity Trust. Ms Suen is a natural born business strategist. She first started her business strategist role back in 1997 as General Manager of Inchcape JDH. Her close scrutiny with distributors has developed her instinct in business planning, brand marketing, operation management, and contract negotiation. Before her new venture, she was Vice president of LF Asia (Asian distribution arm of Li & Fung Group). Her dynamic personality and clarity of vision has brought her a reputation in evangelizing businesses, and her opinions are highly sought after. She is now a business consultant providing real-time solution, implementing pragmatic solutions and development navigation to her clients.

Roy TING Chi Wai is a successful entrepreneur and a rising political star. He graduated from the Department of Marketing in 2004. In 2006, he founded Dynasty International Group Holdings Ltd with his wife. They later developed their fine wine business in Hong Kong and China, and set up the legendary Wine’s Link Limited which will soon be listed in Hong Kong.  Mr Ting has been an elected councilor in the Wong Tai Sin District since 2012. He serves in various community service organizations.  He is the founder of Sunshine Community Service Alliance which provides service for youth and elderly.
