MBA Orientation for 2018 Cohort

Master of Business Administration programme (MBA) organised a two-day intensive orientation comprising a series of career workshops, SHARP Forum workshop, team building activities, and alumni sharing on 1st and 2nd September 2018. More than 120 guests including faculty members, staff, alumni and students joined the banquet dinner on the first day to welcome the MBA cohort 2018 students.

Professor Kevin Chiang, MBA Director welcomed students in the opening session and encouraged them to step out of their comfort zone to embrace new challenges throughout the MBA journey.

In his welcome address at the orientation dinner, Professor Houmin Yan, Dean of the College of Business shared some recent developments of the College and praised the achievements and progress that the MBA programme has made in the recent years. He was delighted to see the diverse background of the new cohort from various industries and countries including Netherland, Nepal, etc.

Mr Henry Fan Hung Ling, SBS, JP, gave an inspiring keynote speech to the audience.  He shared three important principles he concluded from his 30 years of business management experience.  The key principle is integrity, Mr Fan said, “Never compromise your integrity of honesty and moral principle; if you don’t, you will never know when it comes back to haunt you.”  Mr Fan continued to share his second and third important tips to students, namely wisdom and facing adversity. He used his personal stories to illustrate the differences between being wise and smart, and how important to get prepared for adversity anytime.

Also attending the orientation dinner were Professor Frank Chen, Head of Department of Management Sciences, Dr Christoph Schneider, MBA Associate Director, Dr Wilson Chan, MBA Associate Director of Outreach, Dr Maggie Dong, MBA Coordinator in Marketing, and Ms Cynthia Hui, SHARP Forum Supervisor.
