Student team gets second-runner up in Joint University Case Challenge

Co-organised by CityU Business Proposal and Competition Club (CityU BPCC), HKU International Case Society, CUHK Case Competition Team and HKUST Case Analysis Team, the Hong Kong Joint University Case Challenge 2019 successfully concluded on 31 March. TREC Consulting, formed by management students Tristan Lau and Ratchanee Janthanit, marketing student Chin-chin Leung and exchange student Emma Cockburn, won the second-runner up among 16 participating teams from the four universities.

This year, the cross-university competition required participants to come up with business solutions for traditional Chinese medicine clinic chain Gu Sheng Tang in 48 hours and present their ideas to the judges. Despite the limited preparation time, the TREC Consulting team successfully impressed the judges with their innovative business solutions.

Team leader Tristan Lau was excited to represent CityU to take the trophy home, he said, “Working continuously for 48 hours for a case required both physical and intellectual strength. We are happy that we overcame the challenges together. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Dr Zachary Leung from the Department of Management Sciences for his guidance and support.”

Nathan Chen, External Vice President of CityU BPCC and main coordinator of the event, shared that the inter-university competition was a collective effort with organising parties in other universities. “The competition was not only the platform for the finest to showcase their capabilities and learn from each other, but also an event requiring a strong collaboration and a constructive dialogue between case competition clubs from each participating university. CityU BPCC aims to promote the culture of business case competition and connect students with opportunities that allow their ideas to be heard and their skills to shine,” he added.
