Senior economist discusses China economic challenges in EMBA seminar

Senior economist Dr Xiaohuang Zhu, the Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of CITIC Limited and the Chairman of the supervisory board of CITIC Group Corporation, delivered a lecture on the topic of The Challenges and Opportunities of China’s Economy in 2016 on 18th March. The seminar was part of the Dialogue with Hong Kong and Mainland China Business Leaders (中港財智滙系列講座), organised by the Executive Master of Business Administration (Chinese) (EMBA (Chinese)) programme. Over 50 students and guests attended the event.

Dr Zhu explained the challenges of China’s economic slowdown – the sign of an economy in transition.  The earlier burst to financial market caused by the volatile stock market and housing bubble has already slowed down the economic growth significantly, and it raised concerns about how to maintain a more sustainable economic growth from expanding scale to improving its structure.

In need of redeveloping the Chinese economic policies, Dr Zhu suggested ways including tax cuts, interest rate reduction, tightened control of government debt, as well as more in-depth study and management on the internet finance expansion, etc.
