CB welcomes delegation from United Nations Economic Commission for Europe

Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of College of Business and Acting Director of Research Centre on One-Belt-One-Road, and Prof Wayne Yu, Assistant Dean (Executive Education) of the College, welcomed Mr Geoffrey Hamilton, Chief of the Cooperation and Partnerships Section, Economic Cooperation and Trade Division, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in his visit to Hong Kong from 27th to 29th April.

Both parties discussed developments on the establishment of an International PPP Specialist Centre of Excellence for Public Transport Logistics, which is a joint cooperation with UNECE, City University of Hong Kong and Tsinghua University. Mr Hamilton also visited the MTR Operations Control Centre in Tsing Yi, the Efficiency Unit of the HKSAR Government and the Orient Overseas (International) Limited to understand the PPP projects in Hong Kong.

The concept of the PPP Specialist Centre was first generated in a meeting in July 2015 between Mr Hamilton and Prof Way Kuo, President of CityU. An agreement was subsequently signed in January this year in Geneva to advance Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) within China’s One Belt One Road initiative. It is foreseen that the Centre will help develop the best international practices in PPP in the field of transport logistics, and delivery of PPP training especially in the Greater China region.
