The Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme welcomed the new MBA students with a two-day orientation event, held at the Le Méridien Cyberport Hotel from 27th to 28th August.
Prof Kevin Chiang Wei-yu, Director of the MBA programme, warmly welcomed the new students in the orientation remarks, introducing main features of the programme. He highlighted the importance of setting SMART goals, the difference between education vs training, and wished the new cohort could continue to grow and thrive in their MBA journey. Prof Chiang also mentioned about the three global experiential trips ― the unique element of MBA programme ― which aim to broaden students’ perspectives and inspire them to reflect on business strategies and knowledge.
A dinner banquet was held in the evening on 27th August with over 120 participants attended, including the new cohort, current students, faculty and guests. Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of College of Business, officiated at the event and welcomed the new students to join the College. Prof Yan believed that the diversity of background of the MBA students could definitely help foster the exchange on ideas and enhance their learning experience in the College.
Dr David Ho Chi-shing, JP, Group General Manager, Hong Kong Ferry (Holdings) Company Limited, and 1999 graduate, shared how the programme had helped his career development. Mrs Stella Lau, JP, Council member of City University of Hong Kong (2001-2007) and the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission in Hong Kong, gave an insightful speech on the five pillars of her success, and encouraged the students in achieving excellence.
With the generous support from the MBA alumni and students, the welcoming dinner brought a warm and memorable evening to the new students. Mr Ken Lin, 2013 graduate, and Ms Nikki Cao, 2015 cohort, both the masters of ceremonies, shared their experiences with the MBA programme. Ms Frances Tang, 2005 graduate, now the Principal Harpist of Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra, brought us an amazing harp performance. And Mr Stanley Cheng, 2016 graduate, hosted an online interactive game, connecting the audience together.
Another highlight in the orientation was to introduce the career-related courses and resources such as the MBA Professional Forum, the new elective course “Industry Experts in Financial Markets” and the MBA’s career service.
