CityU Congregation and College Graduation Ceremony


The University held its Congregation on 22nd - 23rd November 2016 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Presiding at the Congregation were Mr Herman Hu Shao-ming, BBS, JP, Chairman of the Council and Prof Way Kuo, President of CityU. 

A total of 2,399 academic awards were conferred to the College of Business graduates, including 1,193 Bachelor’s degrees, 1,133 Master’s degrees, 33 Doctor’s degrees and 40 Research degrees.

On 22th November, Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College, presided at the College Graduation Ceremony, which was held at the Wong Cheung Lo Hui Yuet Hall, Lau Ming Wai Academic Building of CityU, for the MBA, EMBA, DBA and PhD programmes. Prof Yan delivered his address highlighting the crucial role of university in training future business leaders. He wished all graduates to have a great success with their dreams and careers.    

In the ceremony, Dr Yulin Fang, Associate Professor of the Department of Information Systems, and Dr Vikas Kakkar, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Finance, were presented the College of Business Teaching Excellence Award 2016; while Dr Du Du, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Finance, and Dr Yangxin Yu, Associate Professor of the Department of Accountancy, were offered the College of Business Research Excellence Award 2016. These awards were to honour faculty members who demonstrated ability and made tremendous contributions in teaching and research areas.

Two distinguished alumni, Prof Yongheng Yang, Associate Dean and Professor of the School of Public Policy & Management, Tsinghua University, and Mr William Mak Tze-leung, Partner, Assurance Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong, were honoured the first CityU College of Business Distinguished Alumni Awards in recognition of their achievements and contributions to the University and society. Mr Mak said, “It is thrilled to see there are lots of success and development made by the College over the decades, and as an alumnus, I’m proud to have received my education and training here. I hope the College will continue to prosper in the years to come.”   

Graduate representative from the MBA programme, Dmitry Nogovitsyn, addressed at the ceremony. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to parents, teachers and classmates for their support throughout this important journey of university life.

Other sessions of the Graduation Ceremony for six departments were held from 2nd to 6th December respectively.
