A team of five undergraduate students from the Department of Marketing, Bosco Ng Ka-hang, Marco Pang Tsz-sing, Kemely Kwok Nok-sze, Alexa Tang Yan-yi and Kristy Choi Nga-sze, has joined a social media marketing competition “#Save Food Go Viral” (#識講惜食爆橋營), which was organised by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Jockey Club Media 21, and supported by the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, in April.

The team, together with other participating teams, were arranged a 48-hour boot camp to receive training on social media marketing, video production, and the concept of food conservation. After that, they had developed a campaign, to spread the message of food conservation through social media channels.

The CityU Marketing students designed a video about reducing food waste, with celebrity Neo Yau casting in it, which had reached out to almost 30,000 netizens in 14 hours. The team eventually won the Best Team Award.

Bosco Ng said the team would like to raise the awareness of food saving among teenagers, “To get attention from the young people, we came up with a video with a funny, love story plot.”

As the winning team, Bosco and his teammates are given an internship in Disneyland. They are now working together with Disneyland, to develop a series of social media campaigns that last till September, in promoting the resort’s surplus food donation programme.
