College of Business faculty receive University recognition

The College of Business congratulates faculty members who received teaching and research excellence awards at the 2013 Congregation.  Professor YANG Zhilin, Forrest (Professor, Department of Marketing) was the recipient of a Certificate of Merit in the CityU Research Excellence Awards 2013, whilst Ms. CHEUNG Yuen Yi, Wisteria (Teaching Fellow, Department of Marketing), Dr. KWOK Chi Wai, Ron (Associate Professor, Department of Information Systems) and Dr. Tom  VINAIMONT (Assistant Professor, Department of Economics and Finance) all received CityU Teaching Excellence Awards. The awards were conferred by Professor KUO Way, President of the City University of Hong Kong, at the Congregation ceremony held on 19 November.

Prof. Forrest YANG is internationally recognized for his research in establishing an institutional-based, legitimacy-embedded efficiency model for business marketing, and developing a reliable instrument for measuring online service quality.  He has published over 60 articles in premier business journals since joining CityU in 2001, achieving a number of prominent distinctions and awards such as the McGraw-Hill Irwin Distinguished Paper, Best Paper Award from the Decision Science Institute, and Highly Commended Awards from the Emerald Literati Club. He was elected MAG Scholar Fellow and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Asian Journal of Business Research.
Ms. Wisteria CHEUNG receives the award for a second time, having previously been recognized in 2006.  She is a visionary, principle-oriented educator,  believing that “Staying Positive”, “Being Disciplined” and “Keep Innovating” are the key elements instilling her teaching learning practice.  Ms. CHEUNG is also actively involved in developing new courses and providing consulting services to non-profit making organizations and professional bodies.  Being a learning partner and counsellor to her students is her life-long mission.
Dr. Ron KWOK is a role model for teachers and students alike.  He demonstrated an effective and balanced alignment in his teaching, research and administrative activities, using interdisciplinary research to initiate teaching innovations in the classroom - and transforming interesting teaching ideas into successful research projects.  As an Associate Director of the Office of Education Development and Gateway Education he promotes GE culture at CityU. Dr. KWOK also serves as CB’s Assistant Dean, Assurance of Learning, as well as the programme leader of BBA Global Business Systems Management.
Dr. Tom VINAIMONT encourages students to be independent critical thinkers by directly impacting their learning journeys through his teaching - believing that employers prefer creative employees.  He strives to implement three concepts in his teaching: “Deconstruct Knowledge”, “Reconstruct Advanced Knowledge” and “Diversity makes Rich”.

CityU offered a total of three Research Excellence Awards and six Teaching Excellence Awards for 2012/2013.  The University has sponsored teaching and research excellence awards since 1994 and 2007 respectively to recognize faculty members’ outstanding achievements.
