MBA SHARP Forum – Venture Capital vs Entrepreneur

Titled “Venture Capital vs Entrepreneur: Strategies to raise funds from investors”, the College’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme has its second SHARP Forum session on 8th December.

Focusing on the topic of fund raising from business investors, the forum invited three guest speakers. Mr Kelvin Chan, Head of Investment, Fosun Hani Securities Limited, Mr Paul Pong, Managing Director, Pegasus Fund Managers Limited, and Ms Juliette Gimenez, CEO and Co-founder of Goxip, shared what investors and venture capitalists consider when funding new businesses, and how startups can strategize to get support from firms effectively.

Mr Chan highlighted that a corporate investor would evaluate the entrepreneur and his startups from different dimensions, for instance the industry trends, the business plan, etc. He suggested startups should look for strategic partners who can add values and skillsets to the company, instead of providing financial support solely.

Mr Pong explained the importance of right matching of different venture capitals and financial stages of companies. While Ms Gimenez shared her experience in building startup company Goxip, and winning a startup pitch competition.
