Dr Xiaoping Sun speaks on Nazi war crimes process after World War II


Dr Xiaoping Sun, Doctorate of Theology, University of Hamburg, Germany, gave a seminar on 6th April on The reflection process on the war crimes of the Nazis after World War II in Germany. More than 100 participants attended the event at CityU.  

Illustrating the meaning of war crimes, Dr Sun went through some major war crimes committed by Nazi-Germany in World War II, and explained the new interpretation of war crimes from the international community in the post-war period. Dr Sun spoke on the post-war situation in Germany, its reconstruction, major war crimes trials and their significant impact to the contemporary international law. He also shared numerous historical images with the audience.

Dr Xiaoping Sun graduated from the Department of Philosophy of Fudan University in 1980 and studied abroad at the Department of Evangelischen Theology, University of Hamburg in 1988. He was awarded the Doctorate of Theology from the University of Hamburg in 1996. Dr Sun was successively teaching at the Department of Philosophy, Christian Research Center of Fudan University, Theological Department of the University of Hamburg and the Nanjing Union Theological Seminary. In recent years, Dr Sun has been the representative of the Theological Department of the University of Hamburg, and dedicated to academic exchange platforms on theology/religion between Hamburg and Shanghai. Dr Sun’s main publications include "Selection of lyric poems of the bible", “Misunderstanding and Confusion of the inculturation Christian in China" and "Dao and Logos - equivalent concept? Field research by the Bible translating".

About the City Seminar 
The City Seminar 香港席明納 was initiated by Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of the College, with an aim to discuss topics together (席Xí), to understand such topics in depth (明Míng), and to gain something of value from the discussions (納Nà). The College will be inviting a number of professors and/or scholars to explore various topics during the series.
