Experts share insights on the potentials of 5G development in Hong Kong


The Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme organised the MBA SHARP Forum on 25 April. Titled “The Arrival of 5G: A Critical Step towards Smart City Realization”, the forum discussed the potentials and opportunities that 5G can bring to the development of smart city applications in the future.

Dr Henry Wong, Head of Strategic Wireless Technology and Core Networks at HKT kicked off the forum by sharing his insights on 5G and Smart City. Dr Wong first explained the 5G capabilities, followed by a demonstration of implementing 5G network to the infrastructure in Hong Kong.

The forum then followed by Mr Rex Tong, Chief Systems Manager (Smart City) at the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer of HKSAR, who briefly discussed 5G development in Hong Kong and how the government has facilitated the establishment of 5G implementation in the recent years.

The last session of the event was a panel discussion led by Mr Eric Yeung, President of Smart City Consortium, who served as a moderator to facilitate discussion among the speakers and the audience. Mr Reeve Kwan, Co-Founder of GoGoVan also joined the panel discussion to exchange views on the possible benefits that 5G technology can bring to the small and medium enterprises, as well as the business opportunities that grow with 5G development.
