Dean meets with CB scholarship recipients at Columbia University

Prof Houmin Yan, Dean of College of Business, along with Prof Arthur B. Ellis, Provost of CityU, visited Columbia University in the City of New York in October. During the trip they met with the CB scholarship recipients enrolled at the School of General Studies of Columbia University. The students are:

  • Gloria Lujing Shen (2013 cohort)
  • Eric Yile Sun (2013 cohort)
  • Bohao Ma (2013 cohort)
  • Grace Zhonghui Zheng (2012 cohort)
  • Frank Yiyue Wang (2012 cohort)

The students are all from the Department of Economics and Finance, majoring in Business Economics in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme. They have completed their first two years at CityU and were admitted to the Joint Bachelor’s Degree Program between City University of Hong Kong and Columbia University. They are currently studying at the Columbia University School of General Studies. Upon their successful completion of the undergraduate curricula of both CityU and Columbia University, these students will earn two bachelor’s degrees – one from each university.

Prof Yan met with the students and was pleased to hear about the progress on their study at Columbia University. One of the students, Gloria Lujing Shen, who departed for Columbia University this summer, said, “this Joint Degree Programme gives me a sense of belongings [sic] to not only CityU but also Columbia University. I have the responsibility to build a robust connection between the two universities.”

A Columbia University delegation visited the College of Business on 14th October during their visit at CityU. Prof Yan introduced the College to Mr Curtis Rodgers, Vice Dean of School of General Studies at Columbia University, and Ms Jessica Sarles-Dinsick, Senior Assistant Dean for International Programmes of School of General Studies at Columbia University, and they toured the new AC3 building.

Prof Yan gladly introduced the new CB major programme Bachelor of Science in Computational Finance to the delegation. Both parties exchanged ideas on future collaboration possibilities.
