Student Exchange Programme (SEP)
For Undergraduate Students

Who should apply?

We welcome the following current BBA/BSc full-time students who do not have any exchange study experience to make the application.
Students are required to (i) complete at least one year of university studies at CityU before your exchange semester and (ii) should not finish all your graduation required credits prior to your exchange study.  Students may need to seek the advices from their Departmental Exchange Coordinators for special arrangement if necessary.

** Students of BSc Computational Finance and Financial Technology who are studying Financial Technology Stream are not allowed to study abroad in their Year 4.

When to apply?

  1. The quotas left behind from the First Round Application will be invited application in the Second Round.  Students are therefore encouraged to make their application in the first round.
  2. Applicants may edit the application form again from time or time within the application period.  Online application submitted after 23:59 of the deadline will NOT be considered.

When will be the study period?

  1. In the First Round Application, applicants may choose to study abroad in one semester (either Semester A or B) or year for an exchange programme.  Please check the duration of study in our “List of Universities”.
    Applicants may also consider to study one year for two exchange programmes through the International Triangle Programme commencing 2024-2025 academic year.
  2. In the Second Round Application, applicants can study abroad in Semester B only.
  3. New* Year 1 BBAU4 or BSCCBU4 applicants (not for GBU/GBSM applicants) may choose to study abroad twice for two exchange programmes on 2B+3B Double Exchange if students’ academic merit can be achieved in the first exchange study.
  4. New* Year 2 BBAU3 applicants may choose to study abroad twice for two exchange programmes on 3A+4A Double Exchange or 3B+4B Double Exchange if students’ academic merit can be achieved in the first exchange study.
  5. GBU & GBSM students may choose to study abroad twice in the same or different academic year to fulfill their graduation requirement and are not applicable to the above double exchange scheme. If students plan to study abroad in the same academic year, they should apply for the first exchange (e.g. Semester A) in College Level Exchange Programme and the second exchange (e.g. Semester B) in the Institutional Level Exchange Programme and finally accept two offers.
  6. As the academic calendar of the host university may be different with CityU, students should check the start of classes in the homepage of their target universities and arrive at least one week in advance to attend the compulsory orientation programmes.

Where to go?

Applicants should make their choices from the List of Universities for the College and Departmental Level Exchange Programmes. List of universities for the Institutional Level Exchange Programme will be available in December 2023 in the webpage of Global Engagement Office (GEO).

How to apply?

For the First Round Application 2024-2025, applicants are required to complete the application for the (i) College & Departmental Level Exchange Programmes and (ii) Institutional Level Exchange Programmes. Interview is required for (i) only. Finally, each applicant will receive an offer from (i) if they have satisfactory performance in the interview and also an offer from (ii). Applicants need to confirm their acceptance of the offer in either (i) or (ii) if they have two offers. List of universities are differences between (i) & (ii).

(i) College and Departmental Level Exchange Programmes
(offered by College of Business, Department of Economics & Finance, Department of Management Science, Department of Marketing)

Please complete the Online Application by logging in your Electronic ID and submit the following supplementary documents electronically from 1 to 30 November 2023:
  • A recent passport-size photo
  • English proficiency test report, i.e TOEFL or IELTS organized by British Council or IDP
    • optional for applicants who choose to study in Mainland or Taiwan
    • the test date of your report should be after October 2022 (i.e. valid for duration of two years until end of October 2024)
    • late submission of the report can be accepted until 14 January 2024
  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) report (for local students only)
  • Upload 1-minute Video of Self-Introduction
  • Any other supplementary information which you think would be relevant to your application

(ii) Institutional Level Exchange Programmes
(offered by Global Engagement Office)

Please complete the Online Application by logging in your Electronic ID in AIMS (>Student Services > Outbound Student Exchange Application) and submit the following supplementary documents electronically from 11 December 2023 to 22 January 2024:

  • English proficiency test results, i.e TOEFL or IELTS organized by British Council or IDP
    • optional for applicants who choose to study in Mainland or Taiwan
    • the test date of your report should be after October 2022 (i.e. valid for duration of two years until end of October 2024) and not later than 16 December 2023
  • Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) report (for local students only)
