CB welcomes inbound exchange students

The Exchange Student Club (ESC) of the College organised an array of orientation activities for 302 inbound exchange students from 120 partner universities, offering them tips of studying and living in Hong Kong. Activities in the orientation week, 27th August 2018 to 31st August 2018, comprised of welcoming corner, academic advice session, meeting with members of ESC, orienteering, luncheon, exploration tour, and day trip to Stanley.

At the luncheon on 29th September, Professor Houmin Yan, Dean of the College, gave a warm welcome to the students. He suggested them exploring the culture of Hong Kong and getting a glimpse of Mainland China by taking the ready-to-operate High Speed Rail. Also attending the luncheon were Mr David Gil Perez, a representative from the Carlos III University of Madrid, Spain, Dr Mary Pang, Associate Dean (Internationalization), Ms Helen Lam, Deputy Director of Global Services Office of CityU, Mr Simon Lim, Manager of Global Services Office, and representatives from various departments of the College including Professor Zilong Zhang, Dr Christoph Schneider, Dr Daniel Tse, and Dr Andy Kwan.

On 31st August, ESC held a day trip to Stanley to explore the Southern part of Hong Kong. The group visited attractions like Murray House and the Stanley market.  

Qian Cao, an exchange student from Renmin University of China said, “The orientation activities enable me to make friends with students around the world and get familiar with CityU. I am glad to be a part of it and I enjoy the activities very much!”

Another student Kelly Leung who just returned from Yonsei University in South Korea said, “I enjoyed the time spent with inbound exchange students. I can’t wait to introduce the Hong Kong culture to them.”
