Dear Colleagues, Students, Alumni,

I am proud to announce the results of the College of Business Distinguished Alumni Award 2019, which aims to recognise the outstanding achievements and contributions of our distinguished alumni to their professions, the University and society.
The three award winners for this year are:

  • Mr Wilson Chong Ngai Kin – BA in Quantitative Analysis for Business, 1992

  • Dr Toa Charm Ka Ieong – Doctor of Business Administration, 2014

  • Professor Anthea Zhang Yan – MPhil in International Business, 1997

Mr Wilson Chong has more than 20 years of experience in the mobile telecom industry. He is the Managing Director of Rightlink Technology Ltd, specialising in design, R&D, production and sales of mobile phones and tablet products. The company focuses on smart products, start-up and IOT applications, Big Data and AI projects. In 2016, Mr Chong established the IOT HK Association. It organises exhibitions, sharing sessions, IOT application competitions, and promotes the exchange of IOT applications across China and Taiwan, aiming to strengthen the sharing of IOT resources across these regions. Mr Chong holds consultant/honorary positions in nine associations or organisations. He also serves as a mentor of the College’s Young Scholars Programme and CityU’s KTO Inno-preneurship Mentoring Scheme.

Dr Toa Charm is Chairman of OpenCertHub and Principal Advisor to elite AI/Big Data, FinTech and eCommerce start-ups in Asia.  He has over 30 years of management, entrepreneurship, consulting and executive education experience in innovation and technology industry.  Dr Charm has held senior management positions in leading multinationals, Hong Kong and mainland enterprises including Cyberport, HSBC, IBM, Oracle, Kingdee and Jardine Pacific.  He specialises in AI, Big Data, FinTech, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Digital Strategy and Transformation.  He has contributed to both enterprises and start-ups throughout his career.  He has empowered enterprises in transforming to the digital economy and cultivated over 1,000 startups of which three are now Unicorns.  Dr Charm is also Associate Professor of Practice in Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he nurtures digital talents and cultivates the next generation of digital leaders. 

Professor Anthea Zhang is Fayez Sarofim Vanguard Professor of Management in the Jones Graduate School of Business, Rice University. Her research has focused on CEO succession and corporate governance of public-listed companies, and foreign direct investment and technological entrepreneurship in emerging markets (notably China). Her research has been published in top academic journals, such as Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, and Journal of International Business Studies. Her research has been widely cited in top business media outlets such as Harvard Business Review, Economist, Business Week, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, USA Today, and Financial Times. She has served as an associate editor of Academy of Management Journal and is an associate editor of Strategic Management Journal. She has also served on the boards of directors of Strategic Management Society and International Corporate Governance Society.
