Sponsored by HSBC Life, the Business Career Development unit of the College of Business, the Department of Electrical Engineering and CityU Apps Lab joined hands to organise the second HSBC Life Insurance Innovation Competition.

Themed “Enabling young minds to design our future”, the competition aims at generating highly innovative business solutions for the insurance industry and nurturing university students who are interested in InsuTech.

CB hosts the second HSBC Life Insurance Innovation Competition

Students worked together to propose innovative ideas on how HSBC Life can enhance product innovation, improve on product/process development cycle, and ultimately increase revenue while enriching customer satisfaction. The competition received 53 creative proposals, and eight teams entered a finale and presented their ideas online on 29 January 2021. Nine students from CityU were among the 32 finalists in the competition.

Speaking at the competition, Professor Frank Chen, Dean of the College, said, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to HSBC Life for their generous support to competition and their commitment to nurturing the younger generation in Hong Kong. The competition is an inter-discipline and inter-school learning experience which allows students to unleash their creativity to develop innovative business ideas that are customer-centric, sustainable and with good use of new technologies.” 

Before the competition, the College offered training workshops to over 1,000 students from different schools covering macro view of the life insurance industry, big data, artificial intelligence, and Python etc.
