CityU QAB Alumni Reunion 2023 in Shanghai and GBA
To establish and enhance the bond with alumni of MSc Business and Data Analytics (Quantitative Analysis for Business stream) and the former MSc Quantitative Analysis for Business, especially those from Mainland China, two alumni events were organized in summer. Organizer Professor Gavin Feng, MSc Business and Data Analytics (QAB) Programme Leader of the Department of Management Sciences, said, “Despite the fact that over 80% of our TPG students were from Mainland China in the last decade, we have had limited communication with these alumni for various reasons. We want to organize more alumni events to create a robust alumni network that can significantly boost current student employment prospects.”
The first event, the Yangtze Delta River region lunch (Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou), was scheduled in Shanghai on 7 June 2023. Professor Feng and Professor Jingyu He welcomed the alumni and expressed their pride for their achievements. Professor Feng then introduced the programme's development, achievements, and future vision, highlighting those alumni is asset to the programme's development and a driving force for better education. The programme will continue to strengthen its connection and interaction with alumni to promote the development of alumni and the programme.
The alumni excitedly shared their changes and growth since graduation, talked about the future, and expressed their willingness to continue contributing to the programme's development. Ms Yue Luo, Class of 2020, expressed her gratitude to the teachers for organizing multiple alumni reunions. She reunited with old teachers and classmates whom she hadn't seen for a long time and met alumni from different cohorts, and was thrilled seeing their diverse careers and lifestyles. Ms Luo described the reunion as an exceptional and happy event.
Another reunion lunch was organized on 29 July 2023 in Shenzhen. At the event, QAB professors Gavin Feng, Jingyu He, and Lilun Du reminisced about their youthful years with alumni, talked about the friendship between teachers and students, and shared their life insights. Then the professors introduced the latest developments at City University, while the alumni shared their individual career growth after graduation. When talking about their growth and learning experiences in Hong Kong, students expressed that the programme's educational philosophy and academic vigor have prepared them well for their future studies and lives.
Ms Ziyan Yu, Class of 2019, said, “Despite the typhoon, I am glad that I have attended the QAB alumni gathering in Shenzhen. I reunited with familiar faces and met new teachers who joined the QAB programme team. I also connected with fellow graduates in the industry and learned about new opportunities. Thank you to the organizers for bringing us together.”
Both events were attended by over 30 QAB alumni and ended on a cheerful note. Professor Feng expressed his joy at reuniting the alumni and sincere gratitude to those alumni who care about the development of the programme. The programme will actively unite its alumni, support alumni development, further strengthen communication and interaction with alumni, for the mutual advancement of the alumni and their alma mater.
