The College Orientation for Undergraduate first year students was successfully held on August 31, 2023, at the Wong Cheung Lo Hui Yuet Hall in the Lau Ming Wai Academic Building. Organized by the Undergraduate Programmes Team and the College of Business Student Leadership Chapter, this event warmly welcomed incoming undergraduate freshmen and provided them with valuable information to navigate their academic journey. It also served as a great opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with the campus and meet their fellow classmates.

With the theme "Double Your Strengths, Empower Your Dreams," the orientation proved to be an engaging and informative experience for the 368 UG freshmen in attendance.

The orientation was kicked off with the welcome speech delivered by Professor Stephen Shum, the Dean of the College of Business. Professor Shum emphasized the importance of setting goals and envisioning future success, stating, "Our goal is to help you get to where you want to be when you graduate." He highlighted the rigorous curricula, internship programmes, mentorship opportunities, consulting projects, exchange programmes, and tailored career services offered by the college to support students in achieving their aspirations.

Professor Raymond Wong (Associate Dean, UG) advocated an experiential approach, joining in activities and trying new approaches. Elaborating on the “Double your strengths” theme, Professor Wong focused on opportunities represented by “double” programmes such as joint degrees, double majors, etc.

In addition to the speeches, the event featured a video introduction showcasing the various programmes and resources available at the College of Business. This provided freshmen with a comprehensive overview of the academic offerings and extracurricular opportunities that awaited them.

To foster a sense of community and camaraderie, ice-breaking games were organized, allowing students to connect with their peers and build lasting relationships. CB Adjunct Professor Mr Baniel Cheung, then delivered a talk on the importance of building hybrid knowledge, allowing effective application of knowledge across different domains and equipping students with the skills necessary to thrive in an ever-evolving professional landscape.

BBA Global Business Alumnus Ms Vanessa Kwan, delivered encouraging remarks, inspiring students to embrace challenges and seize opportunities. The event concluded with a toasting session, symbolizing the beginning of an exciting chapter in the lives of these young scholars.
