Aiming to bridge the gap between academia and industry, the CityU Fintech Society organized a networking event on 19 October for students interested in pursuing careers in the banking sector. Entitled "Exploring Career in Banking - CityU Fintech Networking Party," the event proved to be a resounding success, offering students a unique opportunity to connect with esteemed alumni from renowned financial institutions.

The highlight of the event was the presence of six distinguished alumni who shared their wisdom and insights with the students. These accomplished professionals, Mr. Christopher Ching from J.P. Morgan, Mr. John Ng and Mr. Rico Choi from Citibank, Mr. Thomas Chung from UBS, Mr. Mark Hung from Top-Tier Asset Management Company, and Mr. Kelvin Cheung from ICBC Asia, provided invaluable mentorship and guidance on career progression, skill development, and strategies for success in the banking industry.

The evening commenced with a stimulating banking, finance and fintech forum, where the alumni took the stage to share their experiences and perspectives with the attendees. This session provided a deep understanding of the industry, offering students a glimpse into the day-to-day responsibilities, work culture, and expectations within various banking roles.

Following the forum, the students were divided into small groups, each assigned to one of the distinguished alumni. This personalized approach allowed for intimate and meaningful discussions, ensuring that every student had the opportunity to seek guidance and advice tailored to their specific interests and aspirations. With a maximum of ten students per round, these small group networking sessions fostered a comfortable and conducive environment for the exchange of ideas and insights.

The event was met with enthusiasm by the student community, with participants representing various majors and years of study. From Majors such as Global Business and Finance to Accountancy and Business Analysis, students from diverse backgrounds came together to seize this chance to connect with industry professionals.

Reflecting on the event, students expressed their gratitude for the organizers' efforts in broadening their understanding of the industry and providing invaluable networking opportunities. One student, majoring in Accountancy, shared, "The forum session provided deep industry understanding, and the alumni shared valuable insights, shaping our career paths." Another student, majoring in Global Business Systems Management, appreciated the diverse alumni panels and noted, "Meaningful discussions with alumni in small groups gave me a clearer roadmap for success."

The CityU Fintech Society, the driving force behind this event, believes that initiatives like these offer a vital bridge between academia and industry. By connecting students with accomplished alumni and providing a platform for insightful exchanges, the society aims to empower students to excel in their future careers.

With the resounding success of the CityU Fintech Networking Party, it is evident that the CityU Fintech Society's efforts have proven invaluable in enriching the university experience and preparing students for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the banking and finance sector.
