CB delegation led by Dean Kalok Chan explores sustainable development practices at Integral, Guilin

A delegation of 15 individuals, led by Professor Kalok Chan, Dean of the College of Business, visited Guilin from 19 – 20 January to attend the Experiential Day at Integral, the Sustainable Development Garden of Esquel Group. The delegation included Professor Gang Hao, Associate Dean (Graduate Programmes and Executive Education); Professor Stephen Shum, Associate Dean (Research and Faculty); Professor Raymond Wong, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programmes); Heads and Associate Heads of Departments, and Programme Directors, among others.Ms Teresa Yang, Vice Chairman of Esquel Group, and Mr Calvin Tsang, Chairman of Esquel China Holdings, warmly welcomed the delegation. Ms Yang shared with the delegation the remarkable story of Integral at the dinner reception. “Integral is a pioneering development model in the textile and apparel industry that combines innovation, quality employment, culture, and environmental sustainability,” said Ms Yang. “We welcome you to visit Integral to experience firsthand how manufacturing and nature coexist perfectly.”

During a sharing session, Mr Calvin Tsang highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability across different sectors for a more environmentally conscious future. “Integral is a knowledge-based innovative enterprise in driving sustainable practices,” he said. “We use various channels including industrializing scientific research and effective branding strategies to achieve our goal.”

The delegation participated in a series of interactive sessions, including company sustainability tours, direct dialogues with industry leaders, and experiential workshops. Through these sessions, they gained valuable insights into a wide range of sustainability-related practices and a comprehensive understanding of the strategies and initiatives employed by Integral to create a positive impact on the environment, society, and well-being. The discussion topics included trust and respect, people and leadership development, innovation, business transformation, bio-diversity, and sustainability.

The delegation found the event an excellent platform for fostering future collaboration on research and education, and they were grateful for the warm welcome and insightful discussions.
