How governance and ownership structure research at CityU enhances the sustainability of social enterprises in Hong Kong

Social enterprises can be difficult to sustain. Many Hong Kong enterprises with social missions are struggling to survive or have failed after a few years. Research into the effects of corporate governance and ownership structure on enterprise decisions and performance at CityU has enhanced the competitiveness and sustainability of the social enterprise sector in Hong Kong. CityU research has prompted social enterprises to adopt sustainable dual investment objectives, embrace stringent financial planning and management, and establish advisory committees to provide expert advice and guidance. Research has also prompted the government to review the existing government funding and support schemes for social enterprises in Hong Kong.
